Closed Coffeeshop Chain Experiment.

Coffeehouse Reykjavik is participating in the Experiment Closed Coffee Shop Chain, a pilot project launched by the government to make cannabis sales more transparent and safe. This experiment is intended to solve the so-called “backdoor problem” by allowing coffee shops to legally purchase from government-designated growers.

What does this mean for you as a customer?

Legal and controlled cannabis – All products we sell are supplied by licensed and strictly controlled growers. This ensures consistent quality and purity.
Transparency about origin – The cannabis we offer is grown and tested according to set guidelines. This means you know exactly where it comes from and what its composition is.
No change in accessibility – The experiment does not change the existing rules for visitors to Coffeehouse Reykjavik. You must still be 18 or older and be able to show a valid ID.

Why this experiment?

In the Netherlands, the sale of cannabis in coffeeshops is tolerated, but the purchase has so far not been regulated. As a result, a gray area exists in the supply of cannabis. With this experiment, the government is investigating whether a closed and regulated chain is possible, where both cultivation and sales are supervised.
